Dental Implants
Simi Valley, CA

Rendering of jaw with dental implant at Simi Hills Dental in Simi Valley, CAA dental implant is a screw-shaped titanium prosthetic that is used to replace one or more teeth. At Simi Hills Dental, we offer you dental implant treatments to restore the function and aesthetics of your teeth.

Comparison Between Dental Implants and Other Tooth Replacement Options

The most common tooth replacement options include dental implants, cemented fixed dental bridges, and dentures.

Dentures are the most affordable type of tooth replacement options, but they can be quite inconvenient as they need to be removed from the mouth when sleeping. Additionally, they interfere with your mouth's ability to properly taste and savor the food. They are also prone to slippage, and you cannot eat hard foods, like apples, with dentures.

Dental bridges involve artificial teeth held aloft by abutment teeth on either side, or at least, on one side. Traditional dental bridges require eroding the adjacent teeth so that they can be fitted with crowns to support the dental bridge. This filing down of the enamel is the main disadvantage in the procedure as enamel cannot grow back, and your adjacent teeth will always need to be covered by a crown, even if you decide to have your bridge removed in the future.

Dental implants, however, do not require damage to healthy teeth. These implants are anchored in the bone and provide numerous benefits to the health of the mouth, including stabilizing and strengthening the jawbone. They also look, feel, and function the most like your natural teeth, which means you can eat whatever you want and smile with confidence.

Dental Implant Procedure

At Simi Hills Dental, Dr. Stout will tailor your dental implant treatment according to your specific needs. Some of the steps that may be included in your treatment are:
•  Single-Tooth Replacement: A single implant and crown can be placed in the gap left by a single missing tooth.
•  Multiple-Tooth Replacement: In case you are missing several of your teeth, an implant-supported bridge can restore them.
•  Full-Arch Replacement: If you are completely edentulous, a full implant-supported bridge or an overdenture can replace them.
•  Bone Grafting: Bone resorption in the upper and lower jaw due to missing teeth, chronic diseases, like arthritis, or other factors can leave you with low bone density. A soft jawbone cannot provide adequate support and stability to a dental implant. Bone grafts, either from natural or artificial sources, can help build up your bone density and improve the appearance of the alveolar ridge, which gives your mouth its shape. It can also help support dental implants.
•  Sinus Augmentation: If you need an implant in your upper jaw, you may require a sinus augmentation. That is because the upper jaw has low bone height and bone density as compared to the lower jaw. A sinus augmentation involves raising the floor of the sinus and packing the upper jaw with a bone graft to develop stronger bone.

What is Peri-implantitis

People with dental implants may develop peri-implantitis if they don't take proper care of their oral hygiene. Peri-implantitis involves the inflammation of the surrounding tissues and bones around the implants. If left untreated, the infection can spread and result in gum and bone loss, which can lead to implant failure.

Exercising good oral hygiene can prevent peri-implantitis and ensure your implant lasts you for several decades.
