Dental Veneers
Simi Valley,CA

Rendering of jaw with porcelain veneer on tooth at Simi Hills Dental in Simi Valley, CA.Veneers, also known as "Hollywood smile", are thin porcelain tooth-colored shells that are used to recreate the natural look and strength of your teeth.

At Simi Hills Dental, veneers are used to restore cosmetic concerns like chipped, misshapen, and small teeth, discoloration, and gap-toothed smiles.

Some people may get a single veneer to restore a chipped or discolored tooth, but others may get veneers on multiple teeth to get an even and brighter smile. The eight front teeth on the upper arch are the most popular choices for veneer application.

Procedure For Placing Veneers

A typical veneer placement process takes two appointments if the restoration needs to be created in a dental lab. With CEREC technology, we can also fabricate veneers on the same day.
•  Local anesthesia is usually not required when placing veneers. However, if the patient's teeth are extremely sensitive, then we will use it as needed.
•  We will first clean your teeth and find out the correct shade of your veneer which matches your natural teeth.
•  We will then shave off a tiny amount of your tooth structure so that when we place the veneer on it, the tooth does not look bulky.
•  An impression of the tooth is then made and is sent to the dental lab for fabrication. A temporary veneer is placed on the etching to protect the tooth.
•  Once the veneer has been delivered, we will remove the temporary veneer and apply an adhesive on the permanent veneer. The veneer is then placed on the tooth, and a curing light is used to bond the material to the surface.
•  We may remove the excess porcelain material and polish your tooth to make it shine.

To ensure your veneer is comfortable, we may recommend a follow-up visit.

Benefits of Tooth Veneers

Veneers offer a lot of benefits to people who need small cosmetic changes to their smiles. Some of the most important benefits are:
•  Veneers can hide the small imperfections in your teeth and help you smile with confidence.
•  Sugary food can create acid in your mouth, which can damage the enamel. This results in your teeth being over-sensitive to heat and cold. Placing a veneer on your teeth can protect them from further damage.
•  Veneer application is a non-invasive treatment and requires very little erosion of the top tooth structure. In this regard, a veneer is a better option than a crown to improve the shape or length of your tooth, if your tooth is strong.

Care for Veneers

Veneers do not require any special care. Regular brushing with a non-abrasive toothpaste and flossing once a day is essential to make your veneers last longer. You should also avoid smoking, or consuming coffee, tea, red wine, or other foods that can stain your teeth.

Also, keep in mind that your veneers are designed to be replaced, no matter how well you take care of them. But good oral hygiene will help them to last 10 to 15 years.

If you are thinking of getting veneers, consult with Dr. Stout to understand the pros and cons of the restorations. Note that getting veneers is an irreversible process since it requires filing your enamel. That means your tooth will always need to be covered and protected.
